These custom sundials by Bill Gottesman read civil (watch) time
with nearly 1 minute accuracy all year long. They adjust for Daylight
Savings and the date. The Renaissance Sundial (patented) illuminates
the time with a crisply focused beam of light, rather than casting
a fuzzy shadow. It is made of bronze and naval brass, and is nearly
four feet tall.
The Sawyer Equant Sundial is 16 inches across. It reads solar time
on its bronze plate, and civil time on its granite plate. Both sundials
adjust for latitude using a precise patented wedge mechanism. These

- The Spot-On Sundial is a new concept in horizontal sundials.
- Its unique feature is the split gnomon which casts the shadow.
Every day at noon a line of light shines between the 2 plates
for around 5 mintues.
- This feature also permits this scientific sundial to be set
up precisely, so that it will tell you the right "time by the
sun" for years to come.

There are four
models of thw Spot-On Sundial in stainless steel. These
are 15 cm. square (£195) for patios and balconies, 24 cm.
square (£450), 30 cm. square (£570) and 42 cm. square. (£860).
The 30 cm. and 42 cm. models are individually designed for
their exact location, and the engraving is selected by the
customer (with suggestions from us if needed).
All models are made from 10 mm. marine-grade stainless steel,
and are thus resistant to weathering and damage.
The 15 cm. model can be mounted on a
stainless steel
stand (£395 complete), and can also be mounted
in a self-contained
water feature
in which the water is recycled with a concealed pump (£1,200).
The 30 cm. model can also be mounted in a water feature
(£2,250 complete).

David Brown makes sundials in slate and other stone, tailor made
for individual clients. They can include anniversary date lines,
decorative carvings and commemorative features. Inscriptions are
all v-cut by hand; gold leaf and enamel paints are used for highlighting
and decoration.
David makes horizontal, vertical, analemmatic and polyhedral dials,
the latter maybe his speciality: his prizewinning polyhedral dial

The first solar timepiece being marketed by Courtyard Sundials is
an Armillary Sphere, cast in naval brass, with the hours embossed
on the equator band. The shaft of an arrow acts as the gnomon, which
casts the shadow. The dial weighs 12 lbs (5.5 kg), is approximately
20 ins (51 cm) high, with a diameter of just under 17 ins (43cm).
Hand-crafted in England from naval brass, the armillary dial makes

our particular interest in precision Sundials, it is not unexpected
that we are specialists in the Heliochronometer as well as in
Classic Horizontal Dials. The former is a truly accurate timepiece
- capable of determining the time to within a minute throughout
the sunlit year. Originally developed early in the last century,
it enjoyed widespread popularity fulfilling the roles of being
dependable regulators for civic clocks and of providing universal
national timekeeping for the railways - both in England and on
the Continent.
After a gap of nearly a century, and now with rather more emphasis
on it also being an attractive garden instrument, we have refined
our design of this intriguing instrument. Handsome and precise,
it is certain to be an object of constant admiration and conversation
in the garden.
The Classic Horizontal Sundial has, of course, much older credentials
but we have striven to learn the lessons of the centuries and
believe that we have satisfactorily risen to this challenge. Of
clean and classic appearance, our design allows opportunity for
it to be tailor made for the geographical site for which it is
intended. With the gnomon cut for the latitude and the dial graticule
making allowance for both longitude and latitude, it just remains
for provision to be made for the Equation of Time. This is adroitly
satisfied by the provision of a Graph on the dial plate which
identifies the correction to be applied for each day of the year.
The end result is that it becomes a simple matter for the observer
to determine the precise time.

We make highly unusual as well as very classical sundials. Our dials
have been described as "The Rolls Royce of Sundials" in an article
in 'The Times' of London.
We are mainly known for our armillary spheres. The spheres can be
made of brass, mirror polished stainless steel or bronze and can
